Volgens de hulpdiensten had iemand zondag een grote hoeveelheid rattengif gestrooid in de kelder van het pand in het Duitse Gummersbach, bij Keulen. Er ontstond vervolgens een chemische reactie.
Er werden ruim honderd brandweerlieden ingezet om het gebouw te ontruimen.
