De twintiger hoorde het verdict zelf toe. Hij heeft wel niet gesproken.
De Gelder zit als sinds januari 2009 opgesloten. Kort daarvoor had hij twee baby's en een 54-jarige vrouw gedood in het kinderdagverblijf Fabeltjesland in Dendermonde. Hij vermoordde ook de bejaarde Elza Van Raemdonck uit Vrasene.
