Koning Albert II zou samen met koningin Paola wegblijven op de traditionele nieuwjaarsreceptie in Brussel uit onvrede over hun dotatievermindering. Het paleis spreekt royaltywatchers tegen. "Koning Albert wil zich discreet opstellen bij grote evenementen die koning Filip ook bijwoont", luidt het in Het Nieuwsblad.
Het paleis is duidelijk: "Koning Albert blijft weg van de publieke scène, zoals hij bij zijn aftreden had aangekondigd."
