Wie het Vrijheidsbeeld nog wil beklimmen moet snel zijn, want op 29 oktober gaat het voor een jaar dicht voor renovatie. Het 46 meter hoge beeld, een cadeau van de Fransen uit de 19e eeuw, krijgt nieuwe trappen en liften.
Het eiland waarop het beeld staat, LIberty Island, blijft wel open voor bezoekers.
