Antwerpen mag zich in 2O13 een jaar lang Europese sporthoofdstad noemen. De stad kreeg de titel voor haar sportbeleid en de plannen die nog op tafel liggen om sport te promoten.
De grootste concurrent was Istanboel. De Turkse stad scoorde net iets beter dan Antwerpen en wordt daar al in 2O12 sporthoofdstad. Hoe het Antwerpse programma er in 2O13 gaat uitzien is nog niet bekend.
