De senator kreeg op 10 mei 15,2 miljoen stemmen achter zich, zijn belangrijkste rivaal en ex-president Joseph Estrada 9,5 miljoen stemmen.
In de strijd voor het vicepresidentschap haalde Jejomar Binay als bondgenoot van Estrada het van senator Mar Roxas, de kandidaat van Aquino.
De vijftigjarige Aquino, zoon van de vroegere presidente Corazon Aquino, neemt op 30 juni zijn functie op.
