De brand was ontstaan in de machinekamer van het schip. De oorzaak is nog niet bekend. Vermoedelijk ontstond het vuur door een mechanisch probleem. De personen aan boord van het schip werden geëvacueerd.
Er was geen gevaar voor de schepen in de buurt.
