Het ongeval gebeurde op de kustbaan die het centrum van Santa Domingo met de luchthaven verbindt. Het voertuig begon plots te slingeren, schoof het in de berm en stortte dan in zee.
Vijftien inzittenden raakten gewond, maar konden uit het water gered worden.
