Het alarm ging af toen de sneltrein in de tunnel onder het Kanaal reed. De trein stopte in het station van Ashford in Zuid-Engeland, waar de 450 passagiers overstapten op een ander rijtuig.
Waarom het alarm is afgegaan is nog niet bekend. Er vielen geen gewonden.
