De voormalige leider van Cuba sukkelde een tijd lang met zijn gezondheid. Daarom nam zijn broer Raul in 2006 zijn taken over.
Fidel Castro zou inmiddels aan de beterende hand zijn. De man, die nog steeds leider is van de Communistische Partij van Cuba, verscheen onlangs sinds lange tijd opnieuw in het openbaar.
