De Oost-Vlaamse wegpolitie riep op om alternatieve wegen te gebruiken: via de R4 in Merelbeke en de N49. Een andere optie is om via de Ringvaart in Merelbeke tot aan de oprit van de E40 in Drongen te rijden.
