De daling dateert al van voor de bijkomende besparingsmaatregelen die onlangs in werking traden. "Het toont aan dat Griekenland op succesvolle wijze het stabiliteits- en groeipact omzet en goed op weg is om het begrotingstekort in 2010 terug te dringen tot 8,7 procent van het bruto binnenlands product (bbp)", aldus de minister.
In 2009 bedroeg het Griekse begrotingstekort bijna 13 procent.
