Maandag verscheen er in de Griekse krant Eleftheroptypia een artikel over de zanger Tolis Voskopoulos, de man van de minister. Die zou jarenlang belastingen hebben ontdoken. Naar verluidt was zijn belastingsschuld tot meer dan 5 miljoen euro opgelopen.
Volgens de vrouw ligt de zaak in het noodlijdende Griekenland erg gevoelig en wil ze daarom opstappen. Premier Georgos Papendreou zou intussen haar ontslag aanvaard hebben.
Gerekou was zelf jarenlang actief als actrice. Ze stond in 1996 ook in de Griekse Playboy.
