De Amerikaanse regering meldt dat de voorbereiding van de grootscheepse actie nu al begonnen is. Zo worden corrupte leiders afgezet om ruimte te maken voor nieuwe politici.
Om het aantal burgerslachtoffers zo laag mogelijk te houden, zal de Taliban vooral met grondtroepen aangevallen worden in Kandahar, de tweede grootste stad van Afghanistan.
