Verschillende politieke bronnen hebben aan VTM-journalist Dirk Van den Bogaert bevestigd dat Albert II vanavond troonsafstand zal doen op 21 juli. De koning zou woensdagmiddag aan het kernkabinet hebben gezegd dat hij "zijn gezondheidstoestand het niet toelaat om volwaardig te kunnen functioneren." Hij heeft alle vertrouwen in zijn opvolger prins Filip.
Ook de zaak-Delphine Boël zou een rol hebben gespeeld.
