Christine Lagarde, de Franse minister van Financiën, is nu ook officieel kandidaat om haar landgenoot Dominique Strauss-Kahn op te volgens als directeur-generaal van het Internationaal Monetair Fonds (IMF).
De 55-jarige politica kreeg zaterdag al de steun van Londen, maar haar naam weerklinkt al langer als topfavoriete. Toch stelde ze zich woensdag pas kandidaat in Parijs.
Nog tot en met 10 juni aanvaardt het IMF kandidaturen. Tegen het eind van die maand moet er een nieuwe topman zijn aangeduid.
