In de Champions League nam Schalke 04 het thuis op tegen de Engelse grootmacht Manchester City. Lang zag het er naar uit dat er een stunt in de maak was, maar Schalke ging op de valreep toch nog ten onder. In de tribunes was de sfeer opperbest en vloeide het bier rijkelijk.
