Juan Manuel Santos en Angelino Garzon hebben zaterdag de eed afgelegd als 59e president en vicepresident van Colombia. Santos nam de fakkel over van Alvaro Uribe, een erg populaire conservatief.
De eedaflegging ging gepaard met een heuse ceremonie op het historische Plaza de Bolívar in de hoofdstad Bogota. Zo'n twintig buitenlandse staatshoofden keken goedkeurend toe, waaronder ook de Spaanse kroonprins Felipe, de Braziliaanse president Lula da Silva en diens Argentijnse collega Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner.
