Vijf weken geleden zonk het olieboorplatform Deepwater Horizon na een ontploffing en een zware brand. Sindsdien lekt er dagelijks bijna 800.000 liter olie in zee.
Woensdagavond startte het Britse olieconcern BP met operatie 'top kill', waarbij modder en cement gebruikt worden om het olielek te stoppen. Die operatie is nog volop aan de gang.
