De betoging werd geopend door een vijftiental burgemeesters uit Halle-Vilvoorde, waaronder Kamerlid Michel Doomst uit Gooik en Dirk Pieters uit Halle. Ook Open Vld-Kamerlid Luk Van Biesen tekende present.
De schatting van het aantal betogers loopt sterk uiteen. De politie houdt het bij 1.200, de organisatoren spreken van meer dan 2.000.
