Alex is de eerste orkaan van het Atlantische orkanenseizoen. Woensdagavond begaf hij zich boven de Golf van Mexico, daarna ging hij aan land net boven La Pesca in Mexico en in Brownsville in Texas.
De orkaan, die behoort tot categorie 2, gaat gepaard met windstoten van 137 kilometer per uur. Ook is er sprake van erge regenval.
