Het antiterreurcomité van Rusland meldt dat het leger in de deelrepubliek Dagestan (Noord-Kaukasus) zeven rebellen heeft gedood. Onder de slachtoffers bevindt zich ook de leider van de opstandelingen.
Het gaat om Abdullah Magomedaliev. Hij zou een zelfmoordaanslag hebben beraamd in de stad Boejnaksk eind vorig jaar. Daarbij lieten 56 militairen het leven.
De beweging had het steeds gemunt op Russische troepen.
