De Tunesische regering heeft na het protest van de voorbije weken alle scholen en universiteiten in het land gesloten.
President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali haalde maandag op televisie uit naar "terreurdaden van gemaskerde schoften". Bij de onlusten kwamen, naargelang de bron, veertien tot honderden mensen om het leven.
Het staatshoofd beloofde ook 300.000 jobs tegen 2012.
