Er zijn maar weinig leden van de Verenigde Naties (VN) die hun aandeel betalen. Volgens de VN hebben slechts 13 van de 192 lidstaten hun volledige bijdrage overgemaakt.
In totaal moet de VN nog steeds 4 miljard dollar krijgen. Het land dat de internationale organisatie het grootste bedrag verschuldigd is, is de VS. Zij moeten nog 1,2 miljard dollar ophoesten. Dat is een vierde van de totale schuld.
Susan Rice, de Amerikaanse ambassadrice bij de VN, lijkt daar niet van op de hoogte te zijn. Volgens haar wordt de contributie steevast op tijd betaald.
