In de Stille Oceaan heeft zich dinsdag een zware zeebeving voorgedaan, zo heeft het Amerikaans Geofyisch Instituut USGS gemeld.
De beving deed zich voor om 17.09 uur Belgische tijd en had een magnitude 6,1.
Het epicentrum bevond zich op ongeveer 10 km diepte, op 1.029 km ten oostnoordoosten van Scott Bank Island (Antarctica) en 2.843 km ten zuidzuidoosten van de Nieuw-Zeelandse hoofdstad Wellington.
