De Amerikaanse auteur Gore Vidal is overleden. Vidal werd 86 en stierf dinsdag (plaatselijke tijd) in zijn huis in de Hollywood Hills aan complicaties na een longontsteking, aldus zijn familie. Dat bericht de Los Angeles Times.Gore Vidal schreef naast romans ook essays en toneelstukken. In 1948 zorgde zijn boek 'The City and The Pillar', waarin thema's als homoseksualiteit en vrije seks behandeld werden, voor de nodige ophef.
Vidal was ook politiek activist. Hij steunde de Democratische partij en probeerde in het Congres en de Senaat te geraken.
