'Illégal' werd geregisseerd door Olivier Masset-Depasse en handelt over een Wit-Russische vrouw die samen met haar zoon van 13 een nieuw leven in België wil starten.
Het is niet de eerste keer dat Masset-Depasse bekroond wordt om zijn werk. Ook zijn vorige film 'Cages' werd in 2006 op het Filmfestival van Rome verkozen tot beste film.
