Disney heeft Lawrence Kasdan en Simon Kinberg gevraagd voor de scenario’s van de achtste en negende Star Wars-films. De twee moeten de ideeën van bedenker George Lucas uitwerken.
Kasdan schreef al mee aan de Star Wars-films 'The Empire Strikes Back' en 'Return of the Jedi'. Kinberg is bekend van 'X-Men'.
