Vanaf 1 augustus zal Jan Becaus niet langer op uw scherm te zien zijn. Het nieuwsanker van de VRT gaat dan op pensioen. Een aanbod om toch nog wat langer 'Het Journaal' te presenteren heeft Becaus geweigerd.
"De hoofdredactie vond dat 65 jaar worden geen eindpunt mag zijn voor iemand die zo populair en zo goed is als Jan Becaus", vertelt hoofdredacteur Luc Rademakers in een krant van De Persgroep. "Maar als hoofdredactie zullen we die beslissing uiteraard respecteren."
Jan Becaus werkt al sinds 1984 voor de nieuwsdienst van de VRT, waarvan 28 jaar als anker.
De VRT telt naast Becaus nog vijf nieuwsankers: Martine Tanghe, Goedele Wachters, Annelies Van Herck, Hanne Decoutere en Wim De Vilder.
