Meer dan veertig jaar na haar dood, heeft de legendarische Amerikaanse folkzangeres Janis Joplin maandag een ster gekregen op de beroemde Walk of Fame in Hollywood.
Joplins jongere broer en zus, Michael en Laura, onthulden het naambordje terwijl Kris Kristofferson het liedje 'Me and Bobby mcGee' zong, één van de grootste hits van de zangeres.
Haar naambordje is al de 2.510de ster op de beroemde boulevard. Die vormt één van de grootste toeristische attracties in de historische filmbuurt van Los Angeles.
Joplin stierf in oktober 1970 aan een overdosis heroïne. Ze was amper 27 jaar oud.
