Aanleiding voor de musical is de 60e verjaardag van Jip en Janneke. In 2011 is het bovendien ook net 100 jaar geleden dat hun 'moeder' Annie M.G. Schmidt geboren werd. De vrouw overleed in 1995. Ze werd 84 jaar oud.
De première zal plaatsvinden op 16 oktober 2011 in Haarlem. Daarna volgen er voorstellingen in verschillende Nederlandse theaters worden getoond.
