De Amerikaanse Filmacademie maakte het nieuws zelf bekend. De 83ste Academy Awards zullen op 27 februari 2011 plaatsvinden in het Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles. De nominaties worden op 25 januari bekendgemaakt.
Op de prijsuitreiking van dit jaar was 'The hurt locker' de grote winnaar met zes Oscars. De prijs voor beste regie ging voor het eerst naar een vrouw, namelijk naar 'The hurt locker'-regisseur Kathryn Bigelow (foto).
