Om 11 uur Belgische tijd is in het eerste gebied op aarde het jaar 2013 feestelijk ingezet. Op de Pacifische eilandengroepen van Kiribati en Samoa leven ze nu officieel in een ander jaar dan in België. Het eerste grotere land dat Nieuwjaar mag vieren is Nieuw-Zeeland. Zij doen dat om 12 uur Belgische tijd.
