De Orde gaat terug tot Godfried van Bouillon en telt 22.000 leden wereldwijd. In België zijn er 360 tot 370 leden onder wie Kroonprins Filip, koning Albert en koningin Paola.
De Orde van het Heilig Graf van Jeruzalem stelt zich tot doel het katholieke geloof te verspreiden en wordt erkend door het Vaticaan.
