Dekker testte positief op epo in 2007, maar dat werd pas in 2009 ontdekt. De wielrenunie UCI had immers een oude urinestaal opnieuw onderzocht met moderne middelen. Zo was Dekker de eerste 'retropositieve' renner.
De Nederlander werd bestraft door de wielerbond van Monaco omdat zijn licentie van die bond afkomstig is. Zijn schorsing loopt net voor de Ronde van Frankrijk in 2011 af.
