De Duitse hoogspringster Ariane Friedrich doet er alles aan begin 2012 terug te keren op het hoogste niveau. Tijdens een training liep de 26-jarige atlete eind vorig jaar een zware achillespeesblessure op.
Met haar persoonlijk record van 2,06 meter is Friedrich de grootste concurente van wereldkampioene Blanka Vlasic.
"Het herstel verloopt vlot, maar de minste tegenslag kan de Olympische Spelen van Londen in het gedrang brengen", zegt haar trainer Günter Eisinger.
