De naam van Hugo Broos zou gevallen zijn in de zoektocht naar een opvolger voor Michel Sablon, technisch directeur bij de Belgische voetbalbond. De man gaat weldra op pensioen.
Broos (57) werd echter meteen afgeschreven. Volgens Het Nieuwsblad is hij te oud.
Bovendien heeft de oefenmeester een niet al te beste relatie met Philippe Collin, voorzitter van de Technische Commissie. De twee spreken niet meer met elkaar sinds Broos ontslagen werd bij Anderlecht.
