Nadat Liverpool zich twee minuten voor de strafschoppen plaatste voor de Champions League ten koste van Standard, zijn de Reds door zowat alle tegenstanders in Poule D uitgeroepen tot absolute favoriet.
Liverpool werd bij de loting gekoppeld aan Atletico Madrid, PSV en Olympique Marseille. Zowel Eric Gerets (OM) als zijn PSV-collega Huub Stevens zien in Liverpool de grootste kanshebber voor de poulewinst. Ze zullen het bij Standard niet graag horen. (RV)
