De Spaanse international David Villa is maandag met succes onder het mes gegaan. Dat meldt zijn club FC Barcelona op zijn website. De 30-jarige spits brak afgelopen donderdag zijn linkerscheenbeen tijdens de halve finale van het wereldkampioenschap voor clubs tegen het Qatarese Al Sadd in Japan.
Villa moet drie of vier dagen in het ziekenhuis blijven. Daarna volgt een revalidatieperiode van vier tot vijf maanden.
