David Ferrer (ATP-6) heeft het ATP-toernooi in het Mexicaanse Acapulco gewonnen. In de finale was de Spanjaard te sterk voor zijn landgenoot Nicolas Almagro (ATP 13).
Ferrer, het eerste reekshoofd, won in drie sets. Het werd 7-6 (7/4), 6-7 (2/7) en 6-2.
Voor de 28-jarige Ferrer is het zijn elfde ATP-titel. Dit jaar won hij ook al eens in Auckland.
In de vrouwenfinale was Gisela Dulko (WTA-73) de beste. In de finale klopte ze de Spaanse Arantxa Parra Santonja (WTA 79) met 6-3 en 7-6 (7/5).
Dulko, een Argentijnse van 26, boekte in Mexico haar vierde toernooizege.
