Kirsten Flipkens (WTA-54) heeft zich maandag voor de achtste finales van het WTA-toernooi in het Nieuw-Zeelandse Auckland (235.000 dollar) geplaatst. De 26-jarige Antwerpse deed dat door in de eerste ronde de Kazachse Galina Voskoboeva (WTA-82) in 2 uur en 25 minuten met 6-1, 5-7 (2/7) en 7-5 uit te schakelen.
In de achtste finales mag Flipkens het hardcourt op voor een duel met de Française Pauline Parmentier (WTA-65). Die versloeg het Amerikaanse zevende reekshoofd Christina McHale (WTA-33) met 6-4 en 6-1. Het wordt de eerste ontmoeting tussen Flipkens en Parmentier, net als Flipkens 26 jaar oud.
