Het Formule 1-circus zal voorlopig nog niet in Afrika neerstrijken. Dat maakte Jean Todt, voorzitter van de internationale autosportfederatie FIA, bekend.
"Geen enkel land in Afrika heeft de serieuze intentie om een Formule 1-race te organiseren. Ik zie het de komende vijf, zes jaar dus niet gebeuren", aldus Todt.
Afrika zou volgens Todt meer kans maken op het rally-circuit. "Afrika is een fantastische plaats om rally's te organiseren. Maar het is wel belangrijk om te letten op de financiële zaken en veiligheidspunten", besluit hij.
