Sint-Truiden heeft de samenwerking met trainer Franky Van der Elst stopgezet. Dat meldde de naar tweede klasse gedegradeerde Limburgse club donderdag. Van der Elst had nog een contract tot eind volgend seizoen.
De 51-jarige Van der Elst nam in september 2011 het roer over van Guido Brepoels. Eerder was de voormalige Rode Duivel hoofdcoach bij Germinal Beerschot (1999-2003), Lokeren (2003-2004), Brussels 2008) en Lommel United (2009-2011). Van 2005 tot 2007 was hij assistent bij Club Brugge.
