Svetlana Shkolina heeft zaterdag het hoogspringen gewonnen op de wereldkampioenschappen atletiek in Moskou. De 27-jarige Russische ging als enige over 2m03. De Amerikaanse Brigetta Barrett pakte met 2m00 het zilver. De Russische Anna Chicherova en de Spaanse Ruth Beitia deelden het brons.
Het is de eerste grote titel voor Shkolina. Vorig jaar moest ze op de Olympische Spelen in Londen met brons vrede nemen. Chicherova was als olympisch kampioene en titelverdedigster de topfavoriete in Moskou.
