An-Sophie Mestach heeft de Australian Open voor junioren gewonnen. De 16-jarige Gentse versloeg Monica Puig in twee sets: 6-4 en 6-2. Vrijdag triomfeerde ze al in het dubbelspel.
De Puerto Ricaanse Puig kon in de eerste set meegaan tot 4-4. Daarna moest de 17-jarige speelster het onderspit delven. Ook de tweede set kon Mestach snel op haar naam schrijven.
An-Sophie Mestach is de eerste Belgische die de Australian Open voor junioren wint. Zij volgt onder meer Jelena Jakovic en Viktoria Azarenka op.
