Japan heeft zaterdag voor de vierde keer de Asian Cup weten te winnen. In de finale, die plaatsvond in de Qatarese hoofdstad Doha, werd Australië verslagen met 1-0.
Invaller Lee scoorde pas in de tweede verlenging de enige treffer van de partij.
Bij Japan, dat wordt gecoacht door Alberto Zaccheroni, stond Lierse-doelman Eiji Kawashima tussen de palen.
