Rans moest over 5,6 meter springen om zich te plaatsen voor de finale, maar dat lukte hem niet. 5,45 m bleek het hoogst haalbare. Uiteindelijk eindigde hij als veertiende.
Op de meeting in het Franse Liévin evenaarde Rans vorige vrijdag nochtans zijn Belgisch record: 5,71 meter.
