Kirsten Flipkens (WTA-111) heeft zich maandag voor de tweede ronde van het grastoernooi in het Engelse Birmingham geplaatst. De 25-jarige Antwerpse deed dat door de Thaise Noppawan Lertcheewakarn (WTA-165) met 6-1 en 6-2 te verslaan.
In de tweede ronde neemt Flipkens het op tegen de Duitse Sabine Lisicki (WTA-100). Die schakelde de Japanse Kimiko Date-Krumm (WTA-62) met 6-4 en 7-6 (7/3) uit.
