Van Bommel gaat dus door als Nederlands international tot en met het EK 2012 in Polen en Oekraïne. "Ik wil echt eens een EK spelen, dat heb ik nog steeds niet gedaan", klinkt het. "Het WK in 2014 is niet meer haalbaar."
De dertiger bevestigt ook dat hij zijn carrière wil afsluiten bij een club uit de Nederlandse Eredivisie.
