Vorig jaar liep Astarloza (30) tegen de dopinglamp. Hij had epo gebruikt tijdens de Ronde van Frankrijk, waarin hij een rit won.
Astarloza ontkent nog steeds dat hij het spel niet eerlijk speelde. Hij krijgt daarbij de steun van zijn team Euskaltel.
